Ottumwa Area Residents Electrical Apprenticeship Program
The National Electrical Contractors Association and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 13 jointly sponsor this apprenticeship training program for Ottumwa, Iowa residents that offers you the opportunity to earn wages and benefits while you learn the skills for a trade that can be both, challenging and rewarding. The Southeast Iowa JATC Program has been approved by the US Department of Labor and the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. We use the classroom curriculum developed by the NJATC and train our apprentice instructors in the teaching methods they endorse to produce one of the best electrical training programs available today focused on the needs of Ottumwa area residents. All five levels of our program are revised every year to keep up with the latest technologies and recent changes in the National Electrical Code to ensure our Ottumwa apprentices are being taught the most up-to-date information possible. The NJATC has long been recognized as the standard for Electrical Apprenticeship Programs nationally and the Southeast Iowa JATC strives to uphold those standards locally.
What is an Ottumwa Electrical Apprenticeship?
Basically, it is an agreement between the Southeast Iowa JATC Program and Ottumwa residents wanting a career in the electrical construction trade locally. Over the five years of this agreement, the Southeast Iowa JATC Program agrees to provide the classroom and on-the-job training necessary for those individuals to become skilled, qualified journeyman electricians focused on the needs within the Ottumwa community. In return, the selected Ottumwa applicants agree to attend weekly classes, successfully complete classroom assignments, and demonstrate dependability on the job by maintaining good work records and following supervisor instructions.
Earn While You Learn in Ottumwa
After acceptance into the Southeast Iowa JATC program, apprentices are placed with NECA contractors where they will use classroom training on local Ottumwa electrical projects. This on-the-job training allows Ottumwa apprentices to earn wages and benefits while learning. Our program differs from vocational schools in providing paid on-the-job experiences. Ottumwa apprentices receive health insurance and pension benefits after meeting qualifications, with premiums and contributions paid by employers. Over their career, this could be a significant benefit for electrical workers in Ottumwa. The pay scale increases as apprentices advance through classroom and job requirements, up until program completion.
